Bolivian miners denounce tax

LA PAZ, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Bolivian President Evo Morales met with mining leaders Wednesday following protests in the capital over a proposed tax hike, La Razon reported. Morales had already promised to freeze the tax hike, but the miners converged on La Paz anyway and clashed with police, injuring two officers. Protesters blocked a main road leading out of the country late last month, calling for greater government control of the country's petroleum industry. The protests focused on Morales' failure to keep a promise to implement full nationalization of the sector, as the leftist leader once promised. .
