Voters to mull open space, tax questions

They include a countywide question about an open space/farmland preservation tax and three state questions. Also, several municipalities will ask voters for a decision on local questions, most dealing with taxes for land preservation. Here is a look at the questions: COUNTYWIDE Farmland Preservation Open Space Trust Fund Levy Amendment "Shall the Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholders adopt an ordinance to amend its Farmland Preservation Open Space Trust Fund to provide for an "Open Space/Farmland Preservation Trust Fund," which shall be funded through the collection of a dedicated local property tax in an amount not to exceed $0.04 per $100 of assessed value?" If this question is approved by the voters, the county would be allowed to increase the annual tax levy to not more than 4 cents per $100 of assessed property value for land preservation.
